Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
This painting, called A New Dawn, has been sold!
I painted this sunset tri-panel painting for Kyle Winsor, a very talented professional Art Director and fellow creative. He had purchased three white frames and asked if I could create a sunset piece, just like the one you see above.
In order to maintain the consistency of the image as a whole, I squeezed the panels together, as if I was painting one solid piece. However, despite this attempt, I was painting outside by the lake to maintain inspiration, and the wind continued to blow one or another of the panels over onto the ground...with wet paint...and did I mention, sometimes the panels would fall into my painting palette? So, although the result of this piece is peaceful, the experience of trying to maintain consistency was a real struggle.
However, I still thoroughly enjoyed painting this for Kyle. I have always loved the warmth and beauty of the sunrise and sunset. No matter what, each is unique and just as beautiful as the other somehow. I never get tired of watching them, no matter where it is in the world. There is something inherently symbolic about a sunset and a sunrise. The sunset shows us that every day, no matter what we go through, the day will inevitably come to an end; in the morning, the sun will rise, symbolizing a brand new day, a fresh start full of opportunity and newness.
So, may every sunrise hold more promise and every sunset hold more peace. 🌅
Photo by me of the sunrise taken from Dune 45, in the Namib desert, Africa. It is one of the highest dunes, standing over 170 m, made of 5-million-year-old sand.
