This acrylic on canvas with resin art was a commission done for a music group, Panjia. It was inspired by the concepts of binaries, technology, harmony, remembering, duality, differences, continents coming together and being one.
Music Brings Us Together, 24x36" Acrylic on Canvas with Resin
Let's break down the elements of this painting together, so that you can understand in depth where this creative idea generated from. As I mentioned, the briefing that I received from my clientele was that they wanted an artwork which reflected the concepts of binaries, technology, harmony, remembering, duality, differences, continents coming together and being one.
The base colours that were chosen, purple, white, and black for the background are the brand colours of the clientele and music company, Panjia.

The ones and zeros are reflective of the binary element. Using a binary code translator, I input the sentence "music brings us together". The translated binary code is what you see, this sentence, repeatedly written to compose the background.
The two figures that are almost kissing, but are not, is intended to be representative of the element of connection and lack thereof, considering our current situation of a global pandemic. The figures are not in contact, which signifies the gap that exists between them. Kissing is something that used to be natural to us, and still in many ways still feels instinctual to our sensual self that still exists despite the consequences of the pandemic to human intimacy. As these figures will never truly touch, it is meant to give a sense of yearning, of almost being there but not quite being able to touch. We are separated, but still connected, and we are yearning for a time where human contact is natural to us once again. Our desire goes beyond just wanting to be able to kiss, it is the desire to be connected, to feel that electricity that comes from sensuality, intimacy and deep human connection.
The faces are inspired by a circuit board, to tie in the technology element and again nod to the electric feeling between two people connecting. It is also intended to reflect the binary element of everything having an equal opposite, thus why there are two figures, one reflecting the other, as so many other things exist in a binary state in our world.

The drip on the top of the painting was made of a mix of acrylic paint and resin. I used purple acrylic paint to continue to nod to the Panjia brand colours. If this canvas were a flat-laid, rectangular version of our current global map, each of the drips would be pointing towards the countries that each member of the musical group is from, as well as myself. This is intended to reflect our diversity, differences per the brief I was provided, as well as symbolize how we are all connected as artistic creators that are contributing to the world with our creativity. We are such a diverse group with heritage from across the globe, and I had to acknowledge this incredible mix of cultures that created unique, interesting, inspiring and creative people leading to the creation of this artwork.
The drip is also symbolic of our connectedness, as we are one within it. Music brought us together and brings the world together. I am so excited for this group, to watch their journey and follow their success. It was a fantastic project to work on and I could not be more thrilled that Panjia was so pleased with the end result of this creative endeavour.
