Nature is Home

This painting already says it all! If you're anything like me, then you'll feel most at home when in nature and you consider nature as also a way to amplify mental well-being and personal growth.

Nature Is Home, Acrylic Painting on Wood, sealed with resin

This foggy forest scene was inspired by my friend and author, Christine Rees, who was working on a similar painting for her home. It connected strongly to my deep love for being in nature, and represented serenity, and reminded me of how nature can provide a fresh perspective while also enveloping me in a sense of belonging.

I asked people around me what nature meant to them. I received responses such as nature is healing, metal, magnificent, art, a gift, and an anti-depressant. I consider all the above to be true, but had to ask what nature really meant to me, and how I could encompass that feeling in a short phrase. I realized, that to me, nature is home. That is the way I could best describe it.

The Japanese coined this physiological and psychological exercise and experience in the 1980s as shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing” or “taking in the forest atmosphere”). The purpose being to offer an eco-antidote to tech-boom burnout and to inspire people to reconnect with and protect the country's forests.

As someone who has traversed many forests in my short time already on this earth, and will continue to make this a continued priority in my life, I can testify to the extremely positive effects spending time in nature, such as forest bathing, has on your mental health, physical health, and spirit. Being in nature has a hedonistic effect on me. Perhaps it could for you, too. I would strongly recommend anyone to adopt the habit of immersing oneself in nature as often as possible.

The Nordic ornamental design around the text was inspired by my Norwegian heritage.
