Marvel at Others Ideas

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

Okay, so I can't take credit for the design. I did paint this though!

Although not the type of artwork I usually do, Kevin Winsor's favourite superhero is Spiderman.

Kevin had mentioned to me that he would really like a painting of Spiderman, as a true fan of the Marvel universe. Seriously, this kid knows everything about the minute details of each story line and character. His wealth of knowledge is pretty impressive. Although personally my knowledge is pretty limited, I still have always liked the Spiderman character, especially the character contrast that came from the creation of the antihero, Venom.

I did some research and stumbled across this awesome image of a half-Spiderman, half-Venom face. It was a cool idea, to have the hero and antihero represented as two parts of one character. It kind of reminded me of the contrast between Superman and Batman, the hero that is not all good and the antihero who is not all bad, but who have intense conflict with each other. The bright contrasting colours of the two faces also created a powerful impact. I knew this would be the perfect painting for Kevin.

I always like to diversify my skills, discover new content and create range in the topics that I paint. As such, this was a great experience to do comic characters. There are many people that have favourite characters that inspire them for different reasons, so it was a good challenge for me to see if I could recreate their images accurately. I was very pleased that Kevin, the true fan, was thrilled with the painting's exactness. Woo, nailed it! After this painting, I would be more than happy to do another recreation of a favourite character for my clients.

Who is your favourite superhero or villain?
