The Qalandar

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

This jacket was inspired by the Qalandar. A Qalandar is a title used for some Sufi saints, someone who has achieved a very high level of spirituality, spreading the message of love and humanity. A message the world needs right now.

Moiz is a poet, with roots in Pakistan and a connection to the Qalandar. He himself is free-spirited, light-hearted, yet grounded, relisient, and enlightened individual. He approached me about revamping his old jean jacket for the fall season. I was very excited to have a new project to do, especially with content that I had never learned about before.

One of the best parts about the projects I do is how much you get to find about new things from listening to other people's stories, learning from research, and the experience of the creative journey. This is where we landed, incorporating his request for a Qalandar themed jacket, with some beautifully designed script. Feeling blessed to share these moments ✨ Thank you so much, Moiz, for your trust and collaboration in the creation of this jean jacket art!

Did you know that the fashion industry is the second leading greatest freshwater polluter in the world? This clothing is part of a larger collection I have created to reflect this. This is often the result of overproducing fashion items. Consequently, in reflection of the Sustainable Development Goals of the Paris Agreement to reduce climate change, the concept was born to rethink, recycle and reuse second-hand clothing. Creating fashionable, unique items from items you may have not considered worth purchasing. The intention is to create a win-win situation, an environmentally conscious way to reflect your unique personality through your clothes. It is not only a unique statement piece, but also a way to support the fight against climate change through fashion.
